Intraoperative Neuromonitoring or commonly known as (IONM) is the monitoring of a patient's nerve functions during a brain or spinal surgical procedure.
Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM) has become the "standard of care" for many common and complex surgical procedures. IONM simply is a computerize set of "eyes and ears" for the surgeon to be able to understand internally what is happening to a patient's nerve function during the surgical procedure. If any deviation in nerve function is detected then the surgeon can adjust the course of the surgical plan to ensure a positive and safe outcome.
IONM is covered is covered by Medicare and most commercial insurance policies. Patients are encouraged to check with their insurance company prior to surgery.
